Activities In and Around St. Michaels
Restaurants--Reservations at the best restaurants are a must for weekends. To be sure your are accomodated, you may call them directly or ask us to make them. St. Michaels and surrounding areas have many fine restaurants ranging from very casual to almost formal (but never coats and ties). A brief summary:
Boating--there are many options for enjoying the waterways around St. Michaels.
- The cruises--the easiest and cheapest is the Patriot, which leaves its dock about 100 yards from the Inn every 2 hours or so and takes about one hour. There is a catamaran sailboat that leaves from the little park just two blocks from the Inn for a two hour cruise. The Dockside Express leaves on a regular basis from the Harbor Marina, two blocks away.
- If you want to sail on a skipjack from Tilghman Island, there are three options: the Rebecca Ruark(an entertaining Captain Wade pilots the boat); the H.M. Krentz(a great and informative skipper as well); and the Lady Patty. Most of these leave three times per day and have a sunset cruise--you need to have us make reservations for you.
- There are a couple of charters that can take you for longer cruises. There is also an all day fishing trip you can reserve--4 to 6 people, that leaves about 4 miles from the Inn.
- You can rent boats and kayaks from companies in Easton and Tilghman as well.
The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is a wonderful place to spend several hours, only 100 yards from the Inn. Climb the lighthouse or browse through the many shipbuilding exhibits, reviewing the history and activity related to the shipping on the Bay. It is open every day from 9 to 4:30. Cost is minimal.
The Shops--Shopping is the major activity for the St. Michaels tourist. We have a wide variety of stores that offer a marvelous array of gifts, antiques and items of interest. You can walk to all of them. They are open daily from 10 to 5:30.
Carriage ride--There is a horse and buggy tour of St. Michaels that can be reserved almost any time. We will be happy to make the arrangements.
Golf--there are two courses-Harbortowne is less than two miles from the Inn. Hog Neck is about a 15 minute drive from the Inn but is considered by most to be a more challenging course.
Tennis--There are six courts less than a mile away.
Evening entertainment--St. Michaels has two bars that feature live music on the weekends--the C street Saloon and Characters--you can walk or stagger home from them to your comfortable bed at the Inn.
What Can You Do At The Inn?
We serve breakfast from 8:30 to 10am. Typical breakfast menus include Blueberry Pancakes, French Toast, or Eggs Benedict, all with Fresh Fruit, Orange Juice, Bacon and Coffee, or Tea. We have Coffee available by 7:45am. You should let us know of any dietary restrictions.
For those lazy days, we do have a nice collection of DVD's, board games, and books for your enjoyment. Or take a blanket and lay under one of our shady trees.
We welcome you to the Inn for your weekend getaway on Fridays with hors d'ouvres and beverages. You can socialize with other guests inside, out on the lawn, or either of our porches. The deck is private for our guests who rent the Junior Suite.
One of the Inn's attractive features is the spacious grounds and great harbor views that afford you a wonderful way to just "chill out." The sun room inside, the porches and the lawn are there just for that purpose. We want you to feel at home--we have no strict rules--just be considerate of the other guests. When you use the tv or sit on the porches, be mindful of the fact that they are near other guests' rooms, especially after 10:00pm. This is particularly important when you come back from dinner. We take great care to keep the Inn attractive and clean. We service the rooms every day. If you want fresh towels just put the used ones on the floor.
WHEN YOU LEAVE, PLEASE LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN THE DOOR.
WE ARE OPEN YEAR ROUND - CALL FOR SPECIALS.
Any clothing left behind will be kept for thirty days-if you call, we will gladly mail it to you at cost.
We want to know about anything you think is wrong or can be improved. Please don't be shy about letting us know. I can be reached on my cell phone at all times or found in the little house off of our parking lot. We also do have wireless internet access for your convenience. You can use our telephone for important calls--just let us know and try to keep the call brief. If you need to hook up your computer for a short time, we can accommodate you.
I hope this helps you enjoy your stay with us. I look forward to having you stay in my home, where you are always welcomed as family.
